Vice President U Henry Van Thio addresses 1/2020 meeting of the Central Committee for Accurate and High Quality Statistics in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday

The Central Committee for Accurate and High Quality Statistics held its 10th edition meeting and the first discussion in 2020 at the Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry yesterday.
Vice President U Henry Van Thio, the chairman of the committee, presided over the meeting which was also attended by Union Ministers Lt-Gen Soe Htut, U Soe Win, U Thant Sin Maung, U Ohn Win, U Win Khaing, U Thein Swe, Dr Than Myint, U Han Zaw, Dr Myint Htwe and Dr Win Myat Aye, Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung, Deputy Ministers U Tin Myint, U Maung Maung Win, U Set Aung, Dr Min Ye Paing Hein, U Win Maw Tun, Nay Pyi Taw Council Member U Aung Myin Tun, Vice Governor of CBM U Soe Thein, ministers of State/Region governments, permanent secretaries, the directors-general, representatives of working groups and officials. 
At the meeting, Vice President U Henry Van Thio pointed out the importance of accurate and high quality statistics for building a democratic society, good services of the government and economic development of the country. The Central Statistical Organization is leading for the emergency of National Indicator Framework (NIF) to monitor the progress and effectiveness in implementing the Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan (2018-2030) which includes the development needs compatible with the country’s situations, while the global countries are moving to the Sustainable Development Goals in line with international commitments.
Myanmar is practicing the decentralized statistical system which needs coordination of relevant ministries in the process of NIF as its indexes will track the outputs level and outcomes level, as well as strategic level and impact level of the MSDP.
The Vice President also called for cooperation and coordination of state agencies to develop a system of ‘One Country, One Source and One Data’. The CSO is working to develop Code of Practice for the statistical organizations from both public and private sectors. Union Minister for Planning, Finance and Industry U Soe Win, the Vice Chairman of committee, explained processes for accuracy of statistics and requirements of cooperation in collecting statistical data. The central committee members also discussed implementations of resolutions in the previous meetings, statistical data on population, labour, trade, investment, infrastructure, rural development, accuracy of information, social protections, social management information system, macro business monitoring and financial statistics, index of Central Bank of Myanmar, death and birth rates and promotion of inter-ministerial cooperation at Union level and sub-national levels.
In concluding remark, the Vice President highlighted the need of correct data for common labour in all areas of the country to provide basic household commodities amid the outbreak of COVID-19 and to develop recovery plans from a wide range of losses. He finally emphasized coordination of state departments in transparent manners to ensure quality statistics which is required for any circumstances of the country.
